Aly’s Introductory Piece

A society has an obligation to evolve, using all necessary means. However, in a society that has already evolved, far ahead of its subordinates, what is there specifically to improve? The physical answer is nowhere near as severe as the spiritual answer. America, arguably, faces its largest divide since the Civil War. The hostilities arising from this internal conflict have grown larger than our nation. Foreign nations are becoming larger and larger in the masses, revolving around a subject unknown. With this, media coverages provide misconceptions and false reports now, more than ever before. When the public is so easily swayed by what opinion their timeline possesses rather than the human voice, no figure is present to dissent or debunk the narratives of our nation. The GCFC is unique for its opportunity to present reason and human voices in a time when such traits are overlooked. By providing our peers with the knowledge that many wouldn’t know to look for, we provide one more person with a voice and willingness to evolve our society, both necessary for our nation’s success. By writing of our nation's faults, relating them to our past, and reflecting on its growth, we’ve written an ode, a poem of sorts, to something we hold deeply. Attention is love disguised in a million different expressions. The only way to maintain or foster love for our nation is through a deep and complex understanding. There are never just two sides to every story. By providing representation through journalism, another side is created. Our country and its conflicts are not that of a quad-compass. Our country is made of people who live a kaleidoscope of lives all the time, everywhere, no matter what. This is what unites us. In times like this, where unity is near nothing and similarity in disillusionment is everywhere, the GCFC is necessary. It is essential for our youth voices, in particular, to rise above this noise and rejoice in our similarities.
