My name is Lila Poore, and I am thrilled to hold a staff writer position on the GroupChat for Change. Journalism has been a longstanding passion of mine, and I believe every major happening within my narrative has shaped me into the person I am today. I have already endured and overcome many unwarranted obstacles. Like any other young girl, I grew up with dreams of world domination; but there was nothing more degrading than developing into a world where the patriarchy exists. I’ve always been aware that my gender doesn’t make me less valuable than others, but I have never understood why sexist ideologies are so normalized. I was taught to ignore it, defy it; but I want to redefine our system. I have since made it my mission to encourage both men and women to verbalize their struggles and beliefs and be a voice for those who can’t. I am fortunate enough to have been given a platform by this the GroupChat for Change, where I have the opportunity to speak on behalf of women everywhere. I strongly believe it only takes a few strong-willed people to drive change. As a youthful and budding generation, there is no better time to work towards altering our society’s structure; and abolishing outdated ideas, not only for us but for every generation to come. That being said, I can’t wait to be actively working in a community with others who are just as enthusiastic and passionate about social justice as I am. Being a part of this organization is just one of many steps in my life-long journey of journalism and social justice. I look forward to an amazing year filled with justice and wisdom, and a special thanks to my team for making this possible.
