She Is Terrified

Artwork by Mallika Sunder

Artist's Statement:

Why is it that almost every woman or feminine presenting person has to deal with the realities of rape and sexual assault at least once in their lives? Why is it that little girls have to learn about how to avoid strange men and keep their guard up when walking on the street before they can begin to learn how to just be a child? When will the world realize that every day, rapists go to our schools, our workplaces and our homes, and women and feminine presenting people everywhere have to face them every day? This piece is a reminder of our fear. It is a reminder that somewhere, there is a little girl who has just had to grow up too soon, and she is terrified.
