Samia’s Introductory Piece

Hi, readers! To reintroduce myself, my name is Samia Posadas. I’m a sixteen-year-old high school junior, and I am thrilled to serve this platform as both a writer and an aspiring youth social justice advocate. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been incredibly passionate in the realms of musical theater, singing, and public speaking, all of which have worked to open my eyes to the importance of diversity in every realm of creative expression, whether it be the performing arts or an online published magazine, such as the GroupChat for Change. As a young, female Filipino artist, I am particularly passionate about increasing Asian representation and amplifying Asian voices in the entertainment industry, where many of their stories are marginalized or overlooked. I believe that fostering diversity and sharing unique perspectives through the arts not only helps to enrich our collective understanding and acceptance of one another’s humanity but also works to challenge the conventional narratives of our society. I firmly believe that every story we share, whether on stage or in print, has a profound impact on how we perceive one another and navigate the complexities of today’s world. In my writing, I aim to provide a platform that amplifies the voices of those who have been marginalized, with inspiration from my Filipino heritage, to advocate for greater visibility and nuance in the portrayal and bias of Asian narratives. My goal in contributing to this magazine is to bridge the gap between art and activism, using my passion for storytelling to advocate for the inclusivity and equity of every voice, and I hope that my writing inspires others to see the beauty and necessity of accepting diversity in all forms as we work to promote the power of youth voices in driving social progress for generations to come.
