A Stage For All
The piece explores the persistent lack of diversity in theater, emphasizing how most productions remain dominated by white, able-bodied performers and creative teams. It discusses groundbreaking works like Hamilton, How to Dance in Ohio, and more as examples of inclusive theater that amplify marginalized voices. Despite these successes, however, the article shares the systemic barriers faced by the industry including financial constraints, limited access to training, and resistance to change. My article argues that true inclusivity requires structural reforms, audience advocacy, and a commitment to representing the full spectrum of human experience, highlighting the fact that a more diverse stage enriches both the art and its broader impact on society.
