Artist Statement:

Oftentimes, women are forced to put aside their problems and put up a strong front for their families or communities. We often suppress our own emotions for fear of not being taken seriously and being called ‘hysterical’ or ‘emotional’. In this cartoon, the woman is surrounded by fire and has somehow managed to stand on the ceiling, yet she is forced to serve her husband and act like nothing even happened. I depicted the couple in 1950s era clothing to emphasize that such internalized sexism hasn't disappeared with time.
