Artist’s Statement:

Ramabai Ranade was one of the first women's rights activists in India. She was married at the age of 11.

In pre-independent India, women were not allowed to go to school and become literate, but Ramabai with support from her husband, was able to get educated.

Ramabai with her husband and other colleagues established one of the country's first girls' high schools.

She was the founder and president of the "Seva Sadan", which is a successful institution attended by thousands of women.
